In the morning you will be picked up from the airport or bus terminal and meet with your guide in Puerto Maldonado, where you will receive the latest indications of the activities that you will do. After you will go to the port where the boat will be waiting for you for a journey of 1 hour approximately until reaching the hostel where you will have some time to settle.
Afterwards you will go out for a botanical walk botanical in order to learn more about the nature and to see some animals on the way such as monkeys, birds and beautiful giant trees which surround the hostel. Then you will come back for lunch and a well-deserved nap before the next activity.
After lunch you will take the boat for your excursion of the afternoon which is the interesting Monkey Island. On this island, you can hike in a forest with all different kinds of impressive trees. We will also look for the different monkey species like the white monkey, monkey martin, squirrel monkey and other species that have learned to survive together inhabiting the place.
Today we start with a visit to the Lake Sandoval, for which we have to leave very early (5.30 am) and take a trip by boat for about 20 minutes to reach the main entrance of the Sandoval Lake, where will start with a 1 hour walk. During the we will see the flora and fauna that surrounds the path, including more species of monkeys macaws. Once having reached the lake, your guide will take you for a boat tour rowing so that they can enjoy the great scenery of this lake, and you will also have the opportunity to swim in the warm waters of Lake Sandoval, and to enjoy a delicious typical lunch in this beautiful landscape.
We will take the boat to continue our tour of the lake in search of one of its main attraction; the wolves of the river or the giant otters, a family of otters that together with other species such as howler monkeys, squirrel monkey, the Hoatzin, anhinga’s, cormorants and others makes this lake one of the most beautiful places of the Tambopata Reserve. After you will take the same road back with as destination the hostel.
Native family visit
At 9.00 am we will visit an Indian family, whose house is located at 15 minutes by boat. Once arrived, the family will receive us kindly, and will invite us to sit in one of their huts, the head of the family will tell us his adventures, stories, customs and teach us a little about their dialect.
Later at the day we will do several adventure sports, to start with the canopy.
We have to walk through the forest to get to the hanging bridge, in order to have the chance to see a variety of birds as well as the fabulous natural landscape on our way. Your guide will explain you about the flora and fauna of the place.
After enjoying the canopy Platform Guide explain you everything about the zip line and will put you the necessary safety equipment on.
Following the instructions you will zip line along a line of 190 meters, and on the other end the assistant guide will welcome you and help you on a small bridge of 70 m long to return for another zip line of 160 m long, going back to the starting point. After this adventure among the trees we will return to the river for our next activity.
After having put on our life jackets we will board the boat to pass into the kayak and enjoy this adventure. For your safety, there will always be a boat that will follow the group accompanying you. This is also a good opportunity to bath in the waters of the river Madre de Dios.
Before dinner, we will go for our last activity of the day which is the search for alligators or caimanes. We will use flashlights to find them on the banks of the rivers, where they can be photographed as well as. We will also try to find the capybaras, the world's largest rodents.
Today, according to your flight or bus departure time, you can still make some walks around the lodge to look for monkeys, birds and other animal species that tend to prowl around by the hostel, to have breakfast and then get ready for the return by boat.
