DAY 2 : MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO
Today you will wake up early and have breakfast at the hostel in order to reach Machu Picchu on time to belong to the first ones entering Machu Picchu. That way we have some time to enjoy the beautiful sceneries without a lot of people.
There are two ways to reach to the main entrance of Machu Picchu.
BY BUS: If you would like to go up to Machu Picchu by bus you must buy a bus ticket in Aguas Clientes the night before. Early in the morning around 4.30am we will go to the bus station to line up in order to catch the first buses to Machu Picchu. The buses start leaving at 5.30 am from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu The bus ride is 25 minutes bus ride to the main entrace of Machu Picchu.
HIKE UP: Walking up to Machupicchu takes about 1.20 hours at regular pace. You will start hiking at 4.00am in the morning from Aguas Calientes to the first check point located right at the base of Machu Picchu which opens at 5.00am. At this check point, only for the hikers, you must show your entrance ticket to Machu Picchu and your passport. After that you will hike up stairs to Machu Picchu which takes about 45 minutes. You will pass almost 1700 Inca steps The idea to walk up to Machu Picchu is to beat the buses to be the first ones arriving Machu Picchu.
Once inside you have time to enjoy the amazing views and to take photos. Your guide will give you a 2 hour tour in Machu Picchu. Afterwards you have free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own. After 5 hours in Machu Picchu you will walk back to Hidroelectrica in order to catch the bus back to Cusco.
NOTE: If you are thinking to do the extra hiking options in Machu Picchu like climbing the Machu Picchu mountain or the Huayna Picchu mountain we recommend to spend an extra night in Aguas Calientes and return to Cusco on the third day, since you will need at least 8 to 9 hours to explore everything.
